While the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity, the appearance may have been altered by an injury prior to surgery.  Also known as cosmetic rhinoplasty or “nose job”, plastic surgery of the nose improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing the facial harmony and sometimes even self-confidence.  Surgery of the nose may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose. Cosmetic rhinoplasty has consistently been ranked among the top five most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the United States. Needless to say, it is extremely popular.

RHINOPLASTY CAN CHANGE:

• Nose size, in relation to facial balance
• Nose width, at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR COSMETIC NOSE SURGERY?

The following are some common reasons why you may want to consider rhinoplasty:

• Your nose is too large or too small
• Your nose does not seem to fit with the rest of your face
• Your nose is crooked, badly shaped, or out of alignment
• Your nose has a hump on the bridge that ruins your profile
• Your nasal tip is ball-like or bulbous in appearance
• You have nasal blockage inside your nose and have trouble breathing
• You have a birth defect that you would like improved
• You would like improvement, not perfection, in the appearance of your nose

If you are in good general health, have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for cosmetic rhinoplasty. Dr. Hayduke performs some rhinoplasty cases with his incisions entirely hidden within your nostrils (closed rhinoplasty). Sometimes, however, the open rhinoplasty approach is required with a small incision across the columellar skin. The open approach is more common in patients who require more extensive nasal tip cartilage work.
